Security, Peace and Conflict
Security and conflict play a critical role in how we see the world and how governments use valuable resources. I have extensive expertise working with government leaders to develop effective security and diplomatic strategies and have focused throughout my career on what works in preventing violent conflict. Examples of my work in this area include:
Researching the role of trauma in the security sector and developing practical guidance on trauma-informed approaches
Advising security sector leaders on risk assessment, strategy, and financial and human resource management
Leading assessments and evaluations for development programs and research focused on security, peace and conflict
Governance and Management
In a period of accelerating change and widespread depletion of resources, traditional approaches to management and governance are no longer adequate. Thriving ecosystems in nature offer key lessons for reversing ecological and societal harm, and for developing organic and agile approaches to organizational management and to governance more broadly.
I offer workshops to help organizations explore and apply regenerative principles to (re)define their unique value and scale the impact they want to achieve.
Climate and Environmental Security
Climate change and widespread harm to the environment are making us less secure. My contributions to this rapidly growing field include:
Leading research on security sector roles in environmental security
Exploring the impact of climate and environmental factors on rural and Indigenous women’s security
Designing new climate security courses for international military audiences
Diplomacy and Negotiations
How we reach agreements is often as important as the agreements themselves. Today’s interconnected challenges, from the climate crisis to shrinking civic space, demand more creative and inclusive negotiation approaches.
I bring lessons learned from years of experience in multilateral and bilateral negotiations and facilitation to empower organizations with valuable negotiating and communication skills.
